What are your spiritual goals? For many Western Christians, it all boils down to the misrepresentation of Christ’s gift, individual salvation. Biblical scripture highlights the goal of creating a heaven right here on earth, not just for one of us but for all of us. During the safety brief before a plane takes off, you are told to put on your oxygen mask first before assisting someone else. It is not about being selfish. The reason for this is that you need to have the strength to help someone else. You do not just put on your oxygen mask and sit there and watch someone else struggle. Life is not all about helping someone get to heaven and just endure the suffering here on earth. Heaven and earth should not be seen as separate places, but as all a part of G-d’s wonderful Creation. Remember the LORD’s prayer (model prayer) states “on earth, as it is in heaven.” What are you doing to create heaven on earth? What are you doing to ease the suffering of all of humanity and not just yourself?
